Everybody Wants To … Until Its Time

Mateusz M 4

I’m fragile. I feel pain. I hurt. I open my eyes. I create. I conquer. I hold the power.

I’m a thinker. I create victory. I do not give up. I feel no fear. I fear no man.

I’m an athlete, a warrior, an artist.

Some of ya’ll been worshiped since you was in high school, so you don’t really know how to grind. Like you talk grind – like I love it, like I go into the weight room and ya’ll playing like Pac. Ya’ll playing Biggie, like ya’ll all in it. Like, you like Pac but you don’t have the spirit of Pac. You like love Pac,  you like listening to Pac, you like listening to Biggie, you like to talk about the grind. But you don’t really know what the grind’s like.

I know what the grind is like. I started from the bottom. What is your bottom when you’ve been worshiped since middle school? You’ve been tall your whole life, big your whole life… They worshiped you so much now that you think its about you. You don’t even know what the grind look like.

I’m from Detroit. Homeless. Mama got pregnant with me at seventeen years old. High school drop out. Took me twelve years to get a four year degree. I am coming now! Its in view!

You finally made it to the big leagues, and now you wanna chill? Now you got the big head? Now you can’t grind?

You here now. You here now! You finally made it!

And this is where you break up? This is where you start chilling? This is where you get comfortable?

You made it now! You made it now! You in the big leagues now! They watching you now!

This is where you make it permanent!

Yeah I saw – I saw, “perfect, perfect,” nope. Practice don’t make perfect. Practice makes permanence! This is permanent ya’ll! This is permanent. You can go wherever you wanna go from here.

It does not take talent – you don’t have to be talented. Right? You don’t have to be gifted, you don’t have to be the quickest, the strongest. You don’t have to be the most intelligent to get to where I am. This is what you gotta do: You just got to grind though. Your grind – you got to out grind!

So many of you may of heard me say this, your father, listen to me, might own a company, your momma might be a millionaire, you might come from privilege, your daddy might hook you up with a car, he might know people, he might be able to get you a job, but you will not out work me.

And what you have to decide in your position, in the NCAA, you have to make a decision, that nobody in this league, in your position, will out work you.

Listen to me, you have got to grow up and get to the point as a man that if you ever get beat, you better get beat by somebody that’s just purely more talented than you are. You better not ever get beat by somebody because you beat yourself.

You have to take advantage of an opportunity of a life time in the life time of the opportunity.

Let me tell you something, you sitting in this room, you think you going to be eighteen for the rest of your life, you think you’re going to be nineteen for the rest of your life, you got an opportunity right now that you won’t have five years from now. You have an opportunity right now that you will never have!

People say, “Why you grind so hard E?” I might not be the number one motivational speaker in the world five years from now. I gotta get everything I can get right now! Every book I can wright, every – listen to me! My school is being paid for by the athletic department – I am hot right now!

Right here. You may never get another one. Some of you, after this, there may not be another opportunity. And let me tell you what I tell athletes; the worst thing in the world is not growing up in poverty. The worst thing in the world is growing up in poverty and coming here, and getting worshiped, and not taking advantage of this, and you got to go back to the hood! That’s the worst thing that could ever happen to a brother.

You better not lose this! This is the opportunity of a lifetime! Your grandma counting on you to do the right thing. Your momma counting on you, your cousins, your brothers and sisters are counting on you to cash in on this opportunity.

Everybody wanna be a beast. Everybody wanna be a BEAST! … Until its time to do what beasts do.

Until its time to do what beasts do…

Everybody wanna be a beast! Everybody got a lio– tattoos of lions! Lions all on they twitter page– everybody got the lion thing now, they tweeting now, “Rawr!”

But when its time to practice you aint on beast mode! Let me tell you something as I’m getting out of here; can I be real with ya’ll? Most of ya’ll think that a lion is who he is because of how ferocious he is when he catch that gazelle or when he catch that zebra. Can I be real with ya’ll? A part of being a beast just aint eating a gazelle. A part of being a beast is to hunt.

Its the hunt that they excited about! They like to see the gazelles run, then boom! They take off! Cause real lions like to hunt! They love the process – the process – just as much as they love the prize.

And some of ya’ll just want to score! You don’t like the process! You not in love with the process!

A real man in the dark when nobody’s watching, he putting in work.

A real man in the dark when nobody’s watching, he putting in work

A real man, when coach aint even watching, he’s studying film on his own. Because he loves the process…

If you will be a champion, if you will be a beast, you gonna have to go through something.

Aint nobody gonna hand you nothing. Aint nobody gonna hand you no championship. Aint nobody gonna hand you no title.

So this is my year – I end – this is my year. Listen to me, say, “Be Phenomenal,” this is it, I want you to chant it out, this is it, “Be Phenomenal Or Be Forgotten.” One, two, three:

To Look For, Or To Create? That Is The Question.

the_sunset_by_antoshines-d6n14p6

“What is the meaning of life?”

I think people ask that question on the assumption that meaning is something you can look for;

And then, “Oh – I found it. Here is the meaning. There is what it is. I’ve been looking for it.”

And it doesn’t consider the possibility that maybe meaning in life is something you create –

You manufacture for yourself, and for others…

And so when I think of meaning in life, I ask:

“Have I learned something today that I didn’t know yesterday?

Bringing me a little closer to knowing all that can be known in the universe.

Just a little closer. However far away all the knowledge sits, I’m a little closer!”

If I live a day I don’t know a little more that day than the day before, I think I wasted that day.

To learn is to become closer to nature.

And to learn how things work gives you power to influence events –

Gives you power to help people who may need it. Power to help yourselves shape a trajectory.

So when I think of, “What is the meaning of life?”

To me that is not an eternal, unanswerable question.

To me, that is in arms reach of me every day.

Quote by Neil deGrasse Tyson

O Captain! My Captain!

Walt+Whitman

O Captain! my Captain! our fearful trip is done,
The ship has weather’d every rack, the prize we sought is won,
The port is near, the bells I hear, the people all exulting,
While follow eyes the steady keel, the vessel grim and daring;
                         But O heart! heart! heart!
O the bleeding drops of red,
Where on the deck my Captain lies,
                                  Fallen cold and dead.
O Captain! my Captain! rise up and hear the bells;
Rise up—for you the flag is flung—for you the bugle trills,
For you bouquets and ribbon’d wreaths—for you the shores a-crowding,
For you they call, the swaying mass, their eager faces turning;
                         Here Captain! dear father!
                            This arm beneath your head!
It is some dream that on the deck,
                                 You’ve fallen cold and dead.
My Captain does not answer, his lips are pale and still,
My father does not feel my arm, he has no pulse nor will,
The ship is anchor’d safe and sound, its voyage closed and done,
From fearful trip the victor ship comes in with object won;
Exult O shores, and ring O bells!
                            But I with mournful tread,
Walk the deck my Captain lies,
                                  Fallen cold and dead.

O-Captain-My-Captain

Swan Song

“It’s not the title that makes you. It’s not the success that makes you. The character, defines the success defines the fame and it starts right there! Championships aren’t won in the theater of the arena, they are won in the thousands of hours in the training room and the labs and the five a.m. runs when its raining and everyone else is sleeping – that’s when its won!”

When you guys find a fear, that fear will

either create you or destroy you. I love

fear. Reason why. behind every fear is the

person you want to be. Fear is self-imposed.

Meaning it doesn’t exist. You create it, you

can destroy it too. Its an intangible. If you

face your fears guys you’ll realize its not

that big.

You go after it and you give it all you have.

If you fail, at least you tried man! ‘I failed,’

is ten times more of a man that someone who

said ‘what if?’ Because ‘what if’ never went

to the arena!

Success guys, is a very, very lonely road

man. Very few people are willing to endure

the pain, the sacrifice, the due diligence to

be successful. Its an uphill battle. And along

that road you’re not going to see too many

friends. You’re going to see your shadow

most often. You got to trust in the heart of

hearts, inside, what you’re doing what you

believe in is a worthy cause, a winnable fight.

See the thing is, for many people they have

tried the same path you’re on – and they failed.

As you walk this journey you’re going to see

carcasses all over the place of people who didn’t

quite have it. That should inspire you because you

got further than that person.

Success – many will love you for it.

The majority will hate you.

Because your success makes them feel

insufficient in their current en devour. It

reminds them of what they could have done,

but they came up short and how they didn’t

revisit it. Or they went out and failed, and failure

is what stood and they never revisited it again.

The difference between a winner and loser.. the

failure is there for some time. Its just the winner

gets back up and does it again, and does it again!

Until it goes his way!

So now you’re down that path and you

are all alone – how do you know you’re

on the right path? How do you know what

you’re doing is in the right direction? If

you’re wondering if you are on the right

path, look at the small things of life. How

do you do them? When you wash your car,

you spend an hour washing your car,

you finish washing,  you put the hoses and

everything away and the brushes. You come

outside to look at the job you did but you

notice some spots missing. What do you do?

Do you re-grab the hoses, pull it all out and do the job right!?

Or do you say, ‘You know, that’s good enough. That’s good enough.’

The thing about good enough is, we don’t know if its enough.

Until the Nth hour, the final hour and everything is on the line!

That’s when we find out if it is enough.

And if we come up short… man doesn’t that suck.

28u348o

I promise you guys:

If today you never say, ‘Good enough.’

Tomorrow, you will always have enough.

“What do you do when no one is watching?

If you do it then, I guarantee you’ll be doing it when everyone is watching.”

Sometimes You Just Need To Shout, “…

I’m experienced now. Professional.

Jaws been broke, been lost, knocked down a couple times,

I’m Bad!

Been chopping trees, I’ve done something new for this fight.

I done wrastled with an alligator – that’s right.

I have wrastled with an alligator, I done tossled with a whale,

I done handcuffed lighting, thrown thunder in jail.

That’s Bad.

Only last week I murdered a rock. Injured a stone. Hospitalized a brick.

I’m so mean I make medicine sick.

Bad! Fast! Fast! Fast!

Last night I cut the light off in my bedroom, hit the switch,

was in the bed before the room was dark.

Fast!

And you, George Foreman — All of you chumps are gonna bow when I whoop him,

All of ya! I know you got him, I know you got him picked, but the mans in trouble!

Be Yourself: The Story of Your Life

Starry Night 01

Sorry, I have to be who I am, everyone else is taken.

Be your-fucking-self!

And if there are people a round who tempt you with non-existence,

blast through that and give them the full glory of who you are.

Do not withhold yourself from the world. Do not piss on the incandescent gift of your existence.

Don’t drown yourself in the petty fog and dustiness of other people’s ancient  superstitions, and unbeliefs, and aggressions, and culture and crap!

No! Be a flare!

We’re all born that way. We’re all born self-expressive.

We’re all born perfectly comfortable with being incredibly inconvenient to our parents.

We shit, we piss, we wake up at night, we throw up on their shoulders, we scream, we cry…

We are, in our essence, in our humanity, perfectly comfortable with inconveniencing others.

That’s how we’re born, that’s how we grow, that’s how we develop.

Well, I choose to retain the ability to inconvenience the irrational.

Do not kill yourself because other people are dead.

Do not follow people into the grave.

Do not atomize yourself because others have shredded themselves into dust for the sake of their fears and their desire to conform with the history of the dead.

Be who you are, if it’s inconvenient to other people,

that’s their goddamn business not yours!
