Uncomfortable vs Exhaustion

So you want to be successful huh? Well there’s one thing in this world that has the ability to change our whole life in an instant. You know what it is? Its action. So first step, you just need to make a decision.

Ask yourself this, a year from now, five years from now, what are you going to wish you did today? The secret to getting ahead in this world is first getting started. You can’t let fear stand in the way of your dreams. You cannot think “Oh what if this doesn’t work?” If you believe enough in the process and the end result, success is going to come to you. It will. You just got to be willing to see it through to the end. But first you just got to jump in the deep end man; and once something goes into motion it stays in motion. The process itself feeds the fire. You can’t be trapped by fear. Limits like fears, they’re illusions. Disregard them. If you’re passionate about it and you go full throttle, there is no doubt: you are going to be good at it.

Because what makes someone good at something? Its dedication, hard work, and its doing it with the proper direction and methodology. So if you plug away you are going to be good.

But what makes someone a professional at something? Its the concept of taking that little idea, that little decision you make, and executing to take it as far as your imagination holds. Dedicating every breath in your body to that single cause. Seeing the grand picture at the end of the road to be the absolute best. And not settling for any reason. Its not talent, its not innate ability, it simply comes down to how hungry you are.

How hungry are you to improve? How big is your appetite for success? What are you willing to do to reach your dreams?

The professionals, the best at their craft, they don’t care about the naysayers. They don’t care about the fun they are foregoing. They don’t take days off. They are one hundred percent set in their ways in perfecting their craft. Because its all for a much larger purpose than any semblance of happiness that immediate gratification provides. Reaching your goal? Well thats just pure bliss.

The higher the expectations, the larger the goal? Well the feeling just magnifies. So whats the difference between you and them? The professionals, they are the ones who are willing to knock on the doors of complete exhaustion every single day. Now let me define exhaustion for you.

Exhaustion is at that very point where its just so damn painful that you just can’t push anymore. That it hurts so bad that you cannot even think straight. Its in reaching that point when deep down, you know, that you did absolutely everything in your power. That there wasn’t one more thing you  could have done. So whats the difference between them and you?

What are you doing at this present moment in time? Ask yourself this: Are you moving closer towards your goals, or are you moving further away from them? Are you knocking on those doors of exhaustion, or are you just comfortable? You see, being uncomfortable is not exhaustion. Being uncomfortable is your mind quitting before your body. Being uncomfortable is just saying no to trying again. Achieving greatness happens when you are willing to do something that will kill you just to make you better.

You see, its easier to buy the ticket to see the game then it is to be the one to prepare for it. Its easier to hang out with your friends then it is to hang with the stairs for an hour. Its easier to sleep in then it is to wake up to a hundred sprints. Its easier to go to a party then it is to go ass to the grass in squats. Its easier to watch athletes from the couch then it is to be the one hoisting the trophy.

But its also a lot easier to look back on your life and know you gave it your all then it is to live with regrets. Not living up to your potential… Well that weighs on your shoulders for a life time.

No one said that being successful was going to be easy. But I will tell you one thing, it sure as hell is worth it. You are your own maker in your world, and there is no such thing as failure. You just got to tell it, “No. Not this time. Not with me.” I’m going to try again, and again, and again, and I’m going to look failure straight in thew face and I’m going to tell it that I am willing to go through all of the struggles to reach my dreams. Because without struggle there is never going to be any progress. Its all in how bad you want it.

How big is your appetite for success? Do you just want a bite, or are you starving out there for it?

Stay empty. Stay driven. Stay hungry.

Young King

‘My dreams don’t live down there.’ That’s what my granddad used to tell me .When I used to walk in the projects and look down I’d see crack needles, I’d see bullets, I’d see blood stains – but when I looked to the sky I saw my dreams. I saw my opportunity.

When I would go to school they would tell me I was too dumb. They told me I’d be like my father, like my family; selling dope, going to the penitentiary. Never seeing what the real world would be… See I was a kid that couldn’t read till he was 16, but my dream was bigger than my reality.

I’m telling you Young King, keep fighting because your life depends on it. Just like when you get hit with that bullet, and your boy is telling you “Don’t stop breathing, don’t stop fighting, you still got life to live.” Because if you lay there in your pool of blood you are going to die there.

Young King, Young King learn how to fight for your purpose and not the money. Because I know we come from them crack houses, I know we come from nothing, but listen to that voice inside your head that tells you that you have everything you need inside of you. I’m going to tell you, there is going to be people that say your dream is false. But I’m here to tell you, your dream is real. Your dream is realer than anything you could ever imagine.

You eating those ramen noodles, you eating that trash every night for dinner, but in your mind you are envisioning a state, you’re envisioning the finer things in life. Pay the price today to live the life that you wanted for your family, you wanted for your kids. Give back to the child that you was when you laid on your mother’s lap. Give back to the child when you whispered to your friends and you told them what you wanted to be.

I’m a kid from Pontiac, Michigan, and they said crime was the only thing that we can be. They say the penitentiary is the only thing we will ever see.

Well I’m telling you now King, the best things come from the bottom. Just like when you open up that cereal box as a kid, you couldn’t wait to get that prize at the bottom. Because let me tell you, God leaves you gifts at the bottom of the stairs, and its up to you to walk up the stairs and show the world your gift.

You’re great King. You’re Great.

Consciousness and its Contents

The one thing people tend to realize at moments like this is that they wasted a lot of time when life was normal.

Its not just what they did with their time, its not just that they spent too much time working or compulsively checking email, its that they cared about the wrong things. They regret what they cared about. Their attention was bound up in petty concerns. Year after year, when life was normal.

And this is a paradox of course because we all know this epiphany is coming. Don’t you know this is coming? Don’t you know there is going to come a day when you’ll be sick or someone close to you will die… and you’ll look back on the kinds of things that captured your attention. Because even if you live to be a hundred, there is just not that many days in life.

It is always now. However much you feel you may need to plan for the future, to anticipate it, to mitigate risks, the reality of your life is now. Our conscious awareness of the present moment is, in some relevant sense, already a memory. But as a matter of conscious experience, the reality of your life is always now.

And I think this is a liberating truth about the nature of the human mind. In fact I think there is probably nothing more important to understand about your mind than that if you want to be happy in this world. That the past is a memory, its a thought arising in the present. The future is merely anticipated, it is another thought arising now. What we truly have is this moment… and this.

And we spend most of our lives forgetting this truth – repudiating it, fleeing it, overlooking it. And the horror is that we succeed. We manage to never really connect with the present moment, and find fulfillment there. Because we are continually hoping to become happy in the future; and the future never arrives.

Even when we think we are in the present moment, in very subtle ways, we’re always looking over its shoulder – anticipating what’s coming next. We’re always solving a problem. And its possible to simply drop your problem, if only for a moment, and enjoy whatever is true of your life in the present.

There are more connections in a single cubic centimeter of brain tissue than stars in our galaxy, and yet our inner experience offers absolutely no clue-we are subjectively unaware of most of what our minds our doing. And yet when we think about what matters… what matters is consciousness and its contents. Consciousness is everything. Our experience of the world, the experience of those we care about is a matter of consciousness and its contents.

So whatever the origins of consciousness, the most important question for us is: “How can we truly be fulfilled in life? How can we create lives that are truly worth living given that these lives come to an end?”

So the frame we put around the present moment is important, and largely determines our experience of it, but it seems possible in fact to experience life more nakedly than this. To experience it without an obvious frame. To pay attention to the present moment closely enough so that you are not doing anything to it.

Now you might feel that your consciousness is in your head, or behind your face – but as a matter of experience, these are just more sensations arising in consciousness. The only evidence of your face and head is as sensation arising in consciousness at this moment. Whatever you can possibly notice-in your body in your mind in the world-has only one place to appear, in your conscious experience.

Now I’m not saying this is all just a dream. But as a neurological matter it is very much like a dream. It is a dream that is constrained by inputs from the external world. And the dreams we call dreams at night are dreams that are not constrained by the external world.

But your mind is all you have, its all you ever had. Its all you have to offer other people. We are all trying to find a path back to the present moment, and good enough reason just to be happier.

If your constantly ruminating about what you just  did or what you should have done or what you would have done if you only had the chance, you will miss your life. You’ll fail to connect with it, you’ll fail to connect with other people. Being the mere hostage of the next thought that comes beaming into consciousness isn’t useful.

So if there is an antidote to the fear of death and the experience of loss, its compatible with reason. I think its to be found here. The purpose of life is pretty obvious; we are constantly… Why do we create culture and form relationships-beyond matters of mere survival?

We are constantly trying to create and repair a world that our minds what to be in.

The Journey

It just takes a spark…

Something to get the ball rolling.

Something to start the dream, the passion, the journey…

It just takes a glimpse of something great,

Something that makes you want to be better –

Something that makes you want to be part of something bigger.

Were you picked last? They don’t think you’re good enough?

Well too bad – you’ll be back… just wait.

Give them a reason, give them a reason to change their minds.

Greatness isn’t given. It’s earned.

Nothing worth celebrating comes easy;

You’re part of something bigger now, has it hit you yet?

Take it all in. Its time to show them what you’re about.

This path will be difficult,

You’re going to work, you’re going to sweat.

Early morning workouts? They’ll test you.

They’ll push you to and past your limit.

And just when you think you’ve hit a wall,

Get a running start, and knock it down!

Limitations? Hah, grab that bat. Break through it.

You know practice can’t be taken lightly.

Everyone likes to play the games.

Winners? Love to practice. They desire the grind.

Excellence is a choice, a decision.

Its hard to measure effort, its hard to measure attitude,

But you can control that, you can bring that.

Every. Single. Day.

You know the results of the compound effect;

You know how to get 1% better today, and then be able to do it again tomorrow.

Failure? Yeah its part of the game, part of life.

We embrace that, welcome it.

Failure is simply an opportunity to improve.

Adversity? Bring it.

Every player, every team will experience it.

The Final 8 in Omaha will be the best at overcoming it.

Use this moment, this chance, to compete against the game.

To grind daily, to show that you’re abnormal…

You’re willing to make consistent, positive, daily choices.

That is the mentality of greatness.

It is time to make your mark. Our mark.

We live by our core covenants:

Selflessness: I am a great teammate.

Excellence: I desire to get better every day in all areas of my life.

Energy: I will bring it every day with a relentless, positive attitude.

Do you think your opponents have put in this much work?

Who cares? They don’t matter.

You compete against the game.

The game is tough enough, the game always knows,

It knows who deserves to be rewarded.

You know this isn’t about any of us.

Its about all of us.

Its about the other eight men on that field,

That put in that work, share our beliefs,

Welcome that adversity, bring that energy.

Don’t just try to win;

Winning is the result of daily decisions to get better.

Winning will take care of itself. Believe that.

It just takes a spark. Its time to show where you’ve come from…

Its all about the journey.

Swan Song

“It’s not the title that makes you. It’s not the success that makes you. The character, defines the success defines the fame and it starts right there! Championships aren’t won in the theater of the arena, they are won in the thousands of hours in the training room and the labs and the five a.m. runs when its raining and everyone else is sleeping – that’s when its won!”

When you guys find a fear, that fear will

either create you or destroy you. I love

fear. Reason why. behind every fear is the

person you want to be. Fear is self-imposed.

Meaning it doesn’t exist. You create it, you

can destroy it too. Its an intangible. If you

face your fears guys you’ll realize its not

that big.

You go after it and you give it all you have.

If you fail, at least you tried man! ‘I failed,’

is ten times more of a man that someone who

said ‘what if?’ Because ‘what if’ never went

to the arena!

Success guys, is a very, very lonely road

man. Very few people are willing to endure

the pain, the sacrifice, the due diligence to

be successful. Its an uphill battle. And along

that road you’re not going to see too many

friends. You’re going to see your shadow

most often. You got to trust in the heart of

hearts, inside, what you’re doing what you

believe in is a worthy cause, a winnable fight.

See the thing is, for many people they have

tried the same path you’re on – and they failed.

As you walk this journey you’re going to see

carcasses all over the place of people who didn’t

quite have it. That should inspire you because you

got further than that person.

Success – many will love you for it.

The majority will hate you.

Because your success makes them feel

insufficient in their current en devour. It

reminds them of what they could have done,

but they came up short and how they didn’t

revisit it. Or they went out and failed, and failure

is what stood and they never revisited it again.

The difference between a winner and loser.. the

failure is there for some time. Its just the winner

gets back up and does it again, and does it again!

Until it goes his way!

So now you’re down that path and you

are all alone – how do you know you’re

on the right path? How do you know what

you’re doing is in the right direction? If

you’re wondering if you are on the right

path, look at the small things of life. How

do you do them? When you wash your car,

you spend an hour washing your car,

you finish washing,  you put the hoses and

everything away and the brushes. You come

outside to look at the job you did but you

notice some spots missing. What do you do?

Do you re-grab the hoses, pull it all out and do the job right!?

Or do you say, ‘You know, that’s good enough. That’s good enough.’

The thing about good enough is, we don’t know if its enough.

Until the Nth hour, the final hour and everything is on the line!

That’s when we find out if it is enough.

And if we come up short… man doesn’t that suck.

I promise you guys:

If today you never say, ‘Good enough.’

Tomorrow, you will always have enough.

If you do it then, I guarantee you’ll be doing it when everyone is watching.”

Be Yourself: The Story of Your Life

Starry Night 01

Sorry, I have to be who I am, everyone else is taken.

Be your-fucking-self!

And if there are people a round who tempt you with non-existence,

blast through that and give them the full glory of who you are.

Do not withhold yourself from the world. Do not piss on the incandescent gift of your existence.

Don’t drown yourself in the petty fog and dustiness of other people’s ancient  superstitions, and unbeliefs, and aggressions, and culture and crap!

No! Be a flare!

We’re all born that way. We’re all born self-expressive.

We’re all born perfectly comfortable with being incredibly inconvenient to our parents.

We shit, we piss, we wake up at night, we throw up on their shoulders, we scream, we cry…

We are, in our essence, in our humanity, perfectly comfortable with inconveniencing others.

That’s how we’re born, that’s how we grow, that’s how we develop.

Well, I choose to retain the ability to inconvenience the irrational.

Do not kill yourself because other people are dead.

Do not follow people into the grave.

Do not atomize yourself because others have shredded themselves into dust for the sake of their fears and their desire to conform with the history of the dead.

Be who you are, if it’s inconvenient to other people,

that’s their goddamn business not yours!

The American’T Dream (The Purse Suit of Happyness) – by Suli Breaks

Let’s plat a game.

You guess who used to work at the Gap: Kanye West.

Guess who used to sell hot dogs at the Mall: Eva Mendes.

I heard President Andrew Johnson was a tailor,

George Washington was a surveyor,

Herbert Hoover was an engineer,

Theodore Roosevelt was a rancher,

And President Jimmy Carter was a peanut farmer.

Hugh Jackman who plays Wolverine was a clown,

But look who’s laughing now.

You know what I noticed about successful people?

Successful people take a course of action which coincides with their belief or passion.

Put your hand up if you work a nine to five, or five to nine,

Or just any job which you don’t enjoy but takes up half your time.

Well hopefully in a couple weeks, months, days, year’s time,

You’ll be able to come back to this video, hear that first line, and keep your hand down.

Because how many times have you visualized taking the pen from the manager’s desk,

Or the one that the cashier keeps behind the till,

The one your supervisor places strategically in their hair,

Or the one the security guard keeps behind his ear

For extra intimidation in writing your resignation.

Because there’s nothing wrong with making an honest living.

But be honest, are you honestly living?

With this menial job which allows you just to stay afloat,

Yes, a job, a J-O-B

Which leaves you just over broke, every single month.

Living your life just for the weekend. Living life just on the weekend.

Because the other five days belong to your manager.

You see there’s a big difference between a job and a career.

Because in the career, no matter how many hours you work you do it because its satisfactory.

But in a job you do it for a salary. Because you’re stuck in the rat race.

And you know, being stuck in the race is one of the biggest of traps,

Because as a matter of fact, even if you win the rat race you’re still just a rat.

See I understand the need to have a job temporarily.

But pursue a career eventually.

Because in my J-O-B, I used to sell at least two hundred shoes a day,

And none of that was ever reflected in my pay.

One of my colleagues once made the company five grand in one month and you know what he got?

An e-mail, a £20 discount voucher, and a complimentary lunch.

And you think you’re safe because your job is commission-based.

Until you’ve been working there for three years and a secretary with the short skirt gets a promotion,

Because her and her boss went for dinner real late.

I’m sure you can relate.

But wait. Are we still happy, with an extra week holiday and a raise in the salary?

Perhaps, we need more clarity, let’s look at the “statistics.”

Because the industrial revolution was beneficial technologically,

But it coerced a lot of people into factories

For ridiculous salaries to benefit their families.

And that shaped people’s mentalities exponentially

And essentially it became the norm

To work for someone else by the turn of the century.

And I could have regurgitated facts and figures to support this,

But I choose not to boast

Plus, that would give them nothing to write about in the Huffington Post.

Now in three years, I’ve had six jobs

And that made me think that long-term, I could never be happy

Working one of these jobs.

And I used to have a rich uncle called Steve,

And they say the apple don’t fall far from the tree,

So, maybe subconsciously I was trying to get one of Steve’s jobs

I understand more than anyone

That a job allows you to pay the bills, make ends meet, and survive.

But that’s exactly what it is, surviving not living.

I hope you are aware of the difference,

It’s like when you hear, but don’t listen.

Because you can hear good advice, but if you don’t heed it

It does no benefit to your system.

The same way only knowledge with application is wisdom.

I hope you’re creating the distinction.

Shawn Corey Carter said it best:

“Nine to Five is how you survive, and I’m not trying to survive.”

So he strived hard for his dream and look where it took him.

So bear that in mind next time you drive pass that arena in Brooklyn.

But then again, survival is the only trait that every human being has in common.

And do not take this as a reason to quit your job,

Go back home and stare at a computer screen.

Because a government check plus idleness does not equal success,

Success will not fall in your lap.

In my family, we have a saying, it says:

“If you really want to grow trees pray for rain. But don’t neglect to water your seeds”

Chase your dreams, because I wrote this

On the back of the payslip on a late shift

The grave shift, a slave shift for makeshift wages

Google the term corporate sharecropping

And you’ll understand what I’m talking about.

If somebody wants, if somebody wants to do these jobs then let them.

And from the bottom of my heart, I respect them.

Because I once met garbage man who was the happiest man that I’ve ever met.

But don’t become a slave to a paycheck

Because a job is a safe net

The condom which the system uses to screw you

And none of us would be here if everyone practiced safe sex

Stand Tall.

And if you’re not sure if you’re building someone else’s dream

Maybe this will help.

Jerry Gillies said, “You will recognize your own path when you come upon it

Because you will suddenly have all the energy and imagination you will ever need.”

And don’t be afraid to innovate.

Because it’s not about how much change you make,

But rather about how much change you make.

Because a business that makes nothing but money,

Is a poor business.

So you decide what your life is worth.

Your passion or your paycheck?

Because your “playing small” does not serve the world

Because what is our deepest fear – it’s not that we are inadequate

Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure

“Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.”
