Monday Morning

Real quick, this is just a rant. Very simple.

And something that I want you to pass on or watch every Monday morning because the level of complaining is unacceptable.

Look, what if I told you this was the last Monday morning of your life?

What if I told you you’d die this week?

Would you complain about your crap job or that test you don’t want to take?

I doubt it.

You’d go much higher level thinking. Well that’s really what it takes.

It takes understanding that if you’re not pumped right now, if you’re begrudging what you’re about to do, if you’re not looking forward to it — Look, I respect practicality:

You got to go through school because your parents want you to, you got to pay your rent, you got student loans, I get it.

But please recognize the world we are living in.

We are living in a world where there is so much more opportunity; this internet thing created way more opportunity for all of us. Way more.

I mean look, you might not even be alive.

Like, your mom and dad could have had sex like three minutes latter and you wouldn’t even exist, and you’re complaining. You could have ended up being a bus, a tree!

I just don’t get the mentality of being head-down sad on a Monday morning.

I’m going to make Monday morning my bitch!

I’m going to make you Saturday, Monday morning.

That’s what I want to do every morning, and thats what I want from you.

Please, take a step back and think about how awesome it actually is. And then, recognize that you can attack the world in a totally different way because you were lucky enough to be born during this era.

Know Thyself

The fight is won or lost far away from witnesses.

Behind the lines, in the gym, and out there on the road.

Long before I dance under those lights.

Theory is not mastery. Repetition is.

If its systematic you can improve it, over and over again.

Muscle memory, miling, the neural connections go from forming a little string, to turning it into a cable wire.

But what I’ve learned is you don’t control everything in life.

You don’t control what you look like, or how to keep your heart beating, your lungs breathing, and your body from degenerating.

You don’t control who comes into your life and you certainty don’t control all of the lessons that the universe has in store for you.

So you can’t possibly account for how everything will work out, but you know your destiny.

You know what you want and you know why you want it on the deepest level.

And thoughts you can control.

Thoughts contain matter. Thoughts influence actions.

So the self talk is not hubris, or false pride, but its affirmation.

Its an understanding who you really are.

Who else is going to tell you, you are the greatest?

But you always carry your humility with you.

And you carry the same will to act when you are winning or even when you feel like you are dying.

That’s the mind of a psychological warrior.

But at some point the purpose is in a different intensity.

Letting go can be just as beautiful.

The legacy cannot be complete without it.

Everything that has a beginning has an end.

To appreciate life and all its glory, it must come full circle.

But here’s the distinction:

You are gone but never dead. You are away but never forgotten.

The message leaves an imprint forever.

How you lived; be true to yourself and to truth itself.

Its polarizing yet unifying.

Its tough yet gentle.

Bold yet humble.

And now the world needs a new champion.

Not only in the ring, but outside of it.

Who is going to step up and follow what had to be done?

Who is going to perpetuate the legacy?

An authentic life is a full life.

Know thyself and greatness will be yours.

— But if you even dream of beating me, you’d better wake up and apologize. —

Young King

‘My dreams don’t live down there.’ That’s what my granddad used to tell me .When I used to walk in the projects and look down I’d see crack needles, I’d see bullets, I’d see blood stains – but when I looked to the sky I saw my dreams. I saw my opportunity.

When I would go to school they would tell me I was too dumb. They told me I’d be like my father, like my family; selling dope, going to the penitentiary. Never seeing what the real world would be… See I was a kid that couldn’t read till he was 16, but my dream was bigger than my reality.

I’m telling you Young King, keep fighting because your life depends on it. Just like when you get hit with that bullet, and your boy is telling you “Don’t stop breathing, don’t stop fighting, you still got life to live.” Because if you lay there in your pool of blood you are going to die there.

Young King, Young King learn how to fight for your purpose and not the money. Because I know we come from them crack houses, I know we come from nothing, but listen to that voice inside your head that tells you that you have everything you need inside of you. I’m going to tell you, there is going to be people that say your dream is false. But I’m here to tell you, your dream is real. Your dream is realer than anything you could ever imagine.

You eating those ramen noodles, you eating that trash every night for dinner, but in your mind you are envisioning a state, you’re envisioning the finer things in life. Pay the price today to live the life that you wanted for your family, you wanted for your kids. Give back to the child that you was when you laid on your mother’s lap. Give back to the child when you whispered to your friends and you told them what you wanted to be.

I’m a kid from Pontiac, Michigan, and they said crime was the only thing that we can be. They say the penitentiary is the only thing we will ever see.

Well I’m telling you now King, the best things come from the bottom. Just like when you open up that cereal box as a kid, you couldn’t wait to get that prize at the bottom. Because let me tell you, God leaves you gifts at the bottom of the stairs, and its up to you to walk up the stairs and show the world your gift.

You’re great King. You’re Great.

To Look For, Or To Create? That Is The Question.

the_sunset_by_antoshines-d6n14p6

“What is the meaning of life?”

I think people ask that question on the assumption that meaning is something you can look for;

And then, “Oh – I found it. Here is the meaning. There is what it is. I’ve been looking for it.”

And it doesn’t consider the possibility that maybe meaning in life is something you create –

You manufacture for yourself, and for others…

And so when I think of meaning in life, I ask:

“Have I learned something today that I didn’t know yesterday?

Bringing me a little closer to knowing all that can be known in the universe.

Just a little closer. However far away all the knowledge sits, I’m a little closer!”

If I live a day I don’t know a little more that day than the day before, I think I wasted that day.

To learn is to become closer to nature.

And to learn how things work gives you power to influence events –

Gives you power to help people who may need it. Power to help yourselves shape a trajectory.

So when I think of, “What is the meaning of life?”

To me that is not an eternal, unanswerable question.

To me, that is in arms reach of me every day.

Be Yourself: The Story of Your Life

Starry Night 01

Sorry, I have to be who I am, everyone else is taken.

Be your-fucking-self!

And if there are people a round who tempt you with non-existence,

blast through that and give them the full glory of who you are.

Do not withhold yourself from the world. Do not piss on the incandescent gift of your existence.

Don’t drown yourself in the petty fog and dustiness of other people’s ancient  superstitions, and unbeliefs, and aggressions, and culture and crap!

No! Be a flare!

We’re all born that way. We’re all born self-expressive.

We’re all born perfectly comfortable with being incredibly inconvenient to our parents.

We shit, we piss, we wake up at night, we throw up on their shoulders, we scream, we cry…

We are, in our essence, in our humanity, perfectly comfortable with inconveniencing others.

That’s how we’re born, that’s how we grow, that’s how we develop.

Well, I choose to retain the ability to inconvenience the irrational.

Do not kill yourself because other people are dead.

Do not follow people into the grave.

Do not atomize yourself because others have shredded themselves into dust for the sake of their fears and their desire to conform with the history of the dead.

Be who you are, if it’s inconvenient to other people,

that’s their goddamn business not yours!

“I Was Dying”

robin-williams-quote

First I was dying to finish high school and start college.

And then I was dying to finish college and start working.

And then I was dying to marry and have children.

And then I was dying for my children to grow old enough for school so I could return to work.

And then I was dying to retire.

And now, I am dying…and suddenly I realize I forgot to live.
