One More Light

Should’ve stayed, were there signs, I ignored?

Can I help you, not to hurt, anymore?

We saw brilliance, when the world, was asleep

There are things that we can have, but can’t keep

.

If they say

Who cares if one more light goes out?

In a sky of a million stars

It flickers, flickers

Who cares when someone’s time runs out?

If a moment is all we are

We’re quicker, quicker

Who cares if one more light goes out?

Well I do

.

The reminders pull the floor from your feet

In the kitchen, one more chair than you need oh

And you’re angry, and you should be, it’s not fair

Just ’cause you can’t see it, doesn’t mean it, isn’t there

.

If they say

Who cares if one more light goes out?

In a sky of a million stars

It flickers, flickers

Who cares when someone’s time runs out?

If a moment is all we are

We’re quicker, quicker

Who cares if one more light goes out?

Well I do

.

Who cares if one more light goes out?

In a sky of a million stars

It flickers, flickers

Who cares when someone’s time runs out?

If a moment is all we are

We’re quicker, quicker

Who cares if one more light goes out?

Well I do

.

Well I do

O Captain! My Captain!

Walt+Whitman

O Captain! my Captain! our fearful trip is done,
The ship has weather’d every rack, the prize we sought is won,
The port is near, the bells I hear, the people all exulting,
While follow eyes the steady keel, the vessel grim and daring;
                         But O heart! heart! heart!
                            O the bleeding drops of red,
                               Where on the deck my Captain lies,
                                  Fallen cold and dead.
O Captain! my Captain! rise up and hear the bells;
Rise up—for you the flag is flung—for you the bugle trills,
For you bouquets and ribbon’d wreaths—for you the shores a-crowding,
For you they call, the swaying mass, their eager faces turning;
                         Here Captain! dear father!
                            This arm beneath your head!
                               It is some dream that on the deck,
                                 You’ve fallen cold and dead.
My Captain does not answer, his lips are pale and still,
My father does not feel my arm, he has no pulse nor will,
The ship is anchor’d safe and sound, its voyage closed and done,
From fearful trip the victor ship comes in with object won;
                         Exult O shores, and ring O bells!
                            But I with mournful tread,
                               Walk the deck my Captain lies,
                                  Fallen cold and dead.

‘You Can Fail At What You Don’t Want, So You Might As Well Take A Chance On Doing What You Love’

My soul is not contained within the limits of my body;

my body is contained within the limitlessness of my soul.

I have often said that I wish people could realize all their dreams and wealth and fame

so that they can see that it’s not where you’re going to find your sense of completion.

I can tell you from experience the effect you have on others is the most valuable currency there is.

Because everything you gain in life will rot and fall apart,

and all that will be left of you is what was in your heart.

We’re not the avatars we create,

we’re not the pictures on the film stock;

we’re the light that shines through.

All else is just smoke and mirrors; distracting but not truly compelling.

Our eyes are not viewers; they are also projectors

that are running a second story over the picture that we see in front of us all the time.

Fear is writing that script.

Now fear is going to be a player in your life,

but you get to decide how much.

You can spend your whole life imagining ghosts,

worrying about the pathway to the future…

but all there will ever be is what’s happening here,

in the decisions we make in this moment,

which are based in either love or fear.

So many of us choose our path out of fear disguised as practicality,

what we  really want seems impossibly out of reach and ridiculous to expect

so we never dare to ask the universe for it.

I’m saying that you can ask the universe for it.

Life doesn’t happen to you, it happens for you.

As far as I can tell it’s just about letting the universe know what you want

and working towards it while letting go of how it comes to pass.

Why not take a chance on faith?

Not religion, but faith.

Not hope, but faith.

I don’t believe in hope, hope is a beggar.

Hope walks through the fire and faith leaps over it.

You are ready and able to do beautiful things in this world,

and after you walk through those doors today

you will only ever have two choices:

Love or Fear.

Choose love.

And don’t ever let fear turn you against your playful heart.
